We had an early 5am wake-up this morning. I loaded the car with all my gear (and a very sleepy wife), and headed to McNears Beach, in Marin.
As I was setting up my transition area (bike, towel, water, shoes etc), a beautiful sunrise came up over the bay.
It was very cold (about 10c/50f degrees) and the water was even colder.
This was my 1st triathlon of what I am sure is many to come. I did the sprint distance which is 500m open water swim, 13km bike, 5km run.
I am still waiting for my official time and placing, but completed it in approximately 1hr 10mins, and placed roughly 25th (out of a total 300 competitors) - most of them also doing their 1st triathlon.
This was a very well organized event, great location, and it even had some good schwag too.
I thoroughly enjoyed it, and can’t wait to do my next one!
